A regular swimmer at the pool was sprinting to the end of the lane when they collapsed. WV Active Bilston – Bert Williams staff including Sarah Bird, Jamie Hallam, Courtney Jackson, Mahavir Johal, Charlotte Lavender, Mira Mistry, Lineu Palmeira, and Ross Smith sprang into action.  

The swimmer was pulled from the pool and CPR commenced as they went into cardiac arrest. Fourteen minutes of CPR were carried out, and the AED was used to shock twice. The swimmer was awake when the paramedics arrived and survived. 

Lifeguard Jamie Hallam said: “Our team at WV Active Bilston - Bert Williams are a close-knit group and we are so proud of the fantastic work we do. The whole team did an excellent job in applying their training to save the life of a well-known member of the leisure centre.”
