Two heroic stories in one Mid-Devon leisure centre! Gym team members help save lady’s life October 2024 saw the team at Exe Valley Leisure Centre Gym come together quickly to assist a lady exercising at the gym. She was using the treadmill when she suddenly suffered a cardiac arrest but, luckily team members, Nick Dean, Sarah Weber, Stephen Moakes, Leanne Vicary, Lewis Barnes, were all on hand to help to administer first aid immediately. After recognising the situation, the team immediately performed CPR for twelve minutes to help support the lady’s airway until the paramedics and air ambulance arrived. Since the incident, the lady has been at home recovering with her family. A very big well done to the team for their lifesaving instincts and RLSS UK First Aid Training which made all the difference! Team comes together to save a life In November 2024, a 70-year-old lady suffered a cardiac arrest whilst swimming at Exe Valley Leisure Centre Main Pool. The team on hand soon sprang into action to quickly perform a water rescue and using first aid. Following CPR, the lady was given four shocks with the defibrillator until the paramedics and air ambulance arrived – which made all the difference. The lady has since recovered and is now at home with her family safe and sound. The police are also keen to put team members Tina Coles, Maisie Budden, Molly Pullin, Mandy Fouracre and Kieran Maye forward for a commendation following their valiant efforts which helped save a life.
