Lifesaving Sport

The Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) is the National Governing Body for pool-based Lifesaving Sport - a sport recognised by the International Olympic Committee and the Commonwealth Games Federation. Lifesaving Sport is the only sport whose skills are first learned for humanitarian purposes.

As showcased in our new promotional video, Lifesaving Sport is a competitive and dynamic international sport, with a variety of fun and challenging activities that take place in and out of the water at swimming pools and the beach. It is also an important vehicle to engage young people in lifesaving and support drowning prevention.

We're excited to announce that the event will be livestreamed on YouTube, so fans from around the world can join in on the action in real time.

We've partnered with Alan March Sport to bring you top-notch coverage of the event. You can catch all the excitement live on the RLSS UK YouTube page, and if you miss it, don't worry – the stream will be available for later viewing too. Plus, with comments enabled, you can interact with other viewers and share your thoughts as the event unfolds.

For those attending in person, we'll have clear signs and notices to help you avoid being included in the livestream if you prefer. Just look for the designated seating areas.

We can't wait to share this thrilling event with you!

How to opt-out

We understand that not everyone wants to be on camera, so we'll take reasonable steps to respect your privacy during the livestream. If you'd prefer not to be included, just let us know when you register.

We'll provide participants with a coloured band to indicate their preference. This way, our live streamer will know whether you're happy to be on camera or would rather stay off-screen. We'll also guide attendees to areas where they can enjoy the event without being filmed.

Additionally, we'll have designated 'No-Film' zones and specific 'No-Film' lanes for participants to use.
Your comfort and enjoyment are our priority.

Under 18’s

We want everyone to have the chance to be part of the livestream! It's a fantastic opportunity for coaches and participants to watch their races and enjoy the event. Plus, friends and family can see their loved ones if they can't attend in person.

For anyone under 16, we kindly ask for the consent of their parent/guardian to be included. We want to make sure we respect everyone's choices. If you're happy for your child to be part of the livestream, please complete the attached consent form. This way, we can ensure all participants have made a proactive choice to be included.

If you’re not comfortable with your child being included in the live stream, please let us know by either emailing [email protected] or by letting us know on the day. This way, we can provide a coloured band to indicate your choice.

We want to ensure everyone's comfort, especially our younger participants. While children under 18 may appear in the livestream, we'll do our best to avoid close-up shots of them. However, they might still appear in the background due to the nature of the event.

Lawful basis

We're excited to share the event with a wider audience through live streaming, based on our legitimate interests (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). Rest assured, we respect everyone's privacy and aim to avoid capturing personal, non-event-related information.

While we rely on legitimate interests for broadcasting, we understand the importance of protecting children's privacy. Parents or guardians of participants under 18 are encouraged to review the event details and discuss any concerns they might have.

If you prefer your child not to appear on camera, you can opt out during registration. We'll provide a way to indicate this preference.
Your privacy and your child's safety are our top priorities.
