The impact of our work is visible across all four UK nations and in Ireland. Thanks to the support of our corporate partners, in 2024 we were able to reach more people than ever before with our critical water safety education.

Our work remains more important than ever.

  • Over 1,500 people accidentally lost their lives to drowning in the UK and Ireland in the last five years.

  • Child drownings are increasing. The most recent data on child deaths in England from the National Child Mortality Database (NCMD) shows that incidents of child drowning are increasing, having risen from 20 in 2019-20 to 41 2022-2

  • Children from disadvantaged communities are most at risk from drowning. Children facing the highest level of social deprivation are most at risk from drowning, as are those from Black or Black British ethnic backgrounds.
