Below are the steps and order required for a RLSS UK Probationary Trainer Assessor to complete their probationary period and become a fully qualified RLSS UK Trainer Assessor. 

Step 1 
  • Candidate successfully completes a TA Course (including TA Specialism) 
  • PTA sources a Mentor (contact RLSS UK if required)
  • PTA contacts Mentor to agree dates of the first course
  • PTA finds Approved Training Centre/Provider (ATC/ATP) for first course and gets authorisation from ATC/ATP
Step 2 
  • PTA plans first course
  • PTA submits course plan, detailing minimum guided learning hours and course schedule to Mentor for approval (2 weeks before the course)
  • Assessment is planned and confirmed for candidates with agreement from ATC/P coordinator and Mentor
Step 3 
  • PTA delivers course following Guidance and Syllabus
  • Probationary TA presents candidates for assessment (Mentor present throughout assessment process) 
  • Mentor completes Probationary Part 1 - Presentation of Candidates for Assessment by Probationary Trainer (LG9) form
  • Mentor confirms if the PTA is successful at this stage
  • If the PTA is not successful at this stage the PTA will need to return to step 2 and the Mentor to inform RLSS UK by emailing [email protected]
Step 4 
  • PTA to find an assessment to conduct at an ATC/P and get authorisation from ATC/P
  • PTA to check Mentor is available for assessment 
  • Mentor to check and confirm independence of themselves and PTA
  • PTA to plan their assessment 
  • Mentor to check the PTA's assessment planning
Step 5 
  • PTA completes assessment of candidate(s) with Mentor present 
  • Mentor shadows assessment completing own practical assessment record to compare with PTA
  • Mentor completes Probationary Part 2 - Assessment of Candidates by Probationary Trainer Assessor (LG10) form
  • Mentor confirms if the PTA is successful at this stage
  • If the PTA is not successful at this stage the PTA will need to return to step 4
Step 6 
  • Mentor to complete LG9 and LG10 forms and send to [email protected]
  • PTA to ensure they retain a copy for their own records
  • Records will be processed within 7 days of receipt and PTA will be issued with an updated certificate of authority
