Lifeguards compete in the GLL Northern Ireland Top Team 2025 Championships 02/07/2025 On Tuesday 24 June 2025, the 9th annual GLL Northern Ireland Top Team event hosted by Andersonstown Leisure Centre. This year, 40 lifeguards across 10 teams competed to be crowned the Top Team – with teams representing GLL (8 teams) and Antrim and Newtonabbey Council (2 teams). The competing lifeguard teams were put through their paces and took part in a speed swim, poolside scenario and online team quiz based upon the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) Gen 10 to find out who the ‘Top Team’ would be. The competition was observed by Quest Assessor David Constantine and the Andersonstown Leisure Centre (GLL) organising team ensured a highly presented centre for the competitive event. As the event was held during Drowning Prevention Week, the organising team collaborated with local schools to invite 50 students to take part in the competition as casualties – making it quite an enjoyable and educational end of term activity for the students too! After a fantastic competition schedule, the Lord Mayor of Belfast awarded the prizes to the Top Teams and the results were: 1st = Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre (managed by GLL) 2nd = Fall Leisure Centre (managed by GLL) 3rd = Templemore Baths (managed by GLL) And Darryl Mills from Shankill Leisure Centre (managed by GLL) was awarded the ‘Most Valuable Person’ award.
