Sam Lawman has been officially selected to represent Great Britain in Lifesaving at The World Games 2025, which will take place in Chengdu, China, from 7 to 17 August. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the sport and Sam, as he will be the first British athlete to compete in Lifesaving since 2001!

The World Games, sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee, bring together the world's top athletes in over thirty sporting disciplines every four years. For non-Olympic sports, The World Games are often referred to as the "Olympic Games." The first edition was held in Santa Clara, USA, in 1981, with Lifesaving Sport added to the programme in London in 1985.

The eight best individuals and teams in each event from around the globe will participate in The World Games 2025 in China. Athletes qualified for The World Games based on their performances during a 15-month qualification period from October 2023 to January 2025. Places were allocated based on official rankings from ILS-recognised international competitions within the qualification window.

Sam Lawman will compete in the Men’s 100m Rescue Medley. The full Lifesaving schedule happening between 7 and 9 August 2025 includes:

  • 100m Manikin Carry with Fins
  • 100m Manikin Tow with Fins
  • 100m Rescue Medley
  • 200m Super Lifesaver

All events at The World Games will be livestreamed on the official website at: https://www.theworldgames.org/.

After careful consideration, the RLSS UK Board of Trustees is pleased to support Sam in this exciting opportunity by contributing £475 towards core costs. This contribution reflects their commitment to helping communities engage in Lifesaving Sport and aligns with the Society’s strategic goal of increasing participation at local, regional, national, and international levels.

RLSS UK wishes Sam Lawman the best of luck in his upcoming competition at The World Games 2025. RLSS UK hopes to share updates on Sam’s progress through its communication channels to celebrate and promote British participation in this important global event. Stay tuned for more!
