About the Lifesaving Academy Tutor award

Lifesaving Academy Tutor is the award for Lifesaving Academy Instructors who wish to progress their skills and knowledge to be able to deliver the following awards:

  • Lifesaving Academy Instructor
  • Lifesaving Academy Assistant Instructor
  • Rookie Lifeguard Instructor
  • Community Instructor

What are the prerequisites?

  • Be aged 18 or over on the first day of the course.
  • Hold a current Life Support 3 (or equivalent) qualification.
  • Hold current RLSS UK Individual Membership (Lifesaver, Licence to Operator or Honorary) (candidates do not need to hold this to take the course, but it is a requirement for them to have membership to be able to teach the National Lifesaving Academy programme or related Instructor awards).
  • Hold the Lifesaving Academy Instructor award (and have passed their probationary period).

Course content

The Lifesaving Academy Tutor award is approximately 6 hours in duration and is based in a classroom.

  • Standards and expectations
  • Training the trainer
  • Planning a Lifesaving Academy Instructor course
  • Delivering and assessing a Lifesaving Academy Instructor course
  • Delivering and assessing other RLSS UK instructor courses

Assessment

To achieve the Lifesaving Academy Tutor award, candidates must pass ongoing assessment during the course, as well as a probationary period that includes delivering a Lifesaving Academy Instructor course within 24 months.
