The First Aid at Work (FAW) qualification expires three years after the date on the certificate. Candidates must re-qualify before the expiry date of their existing qualification.

If you fail to requalify prior to the expiry date of your existing certificate, you may still be able to requalify by successfully completing a two-day First Aid at Work requalification course within 28 days (following your qualification expiry date).

Please note: you are not permitted to act as a first aider until you have requalified.

To re-qualify, you must complete a 12-hour renewal course and be assessed against all learning outcomes and assessment criteria. This can be achieved over two days or split into smaller sessions but must be completed within seven weeks of the start of the renewal course. A blended learning version of the renewal course is also available.

Find an FAW Requalification course near you

When using RLSS UK Course Finder, a course will be an in-person course unless blended learning is clearly stated within the course title and details.

If the 'Results - Map' doesn't show any courses in your area, please contact your local leisure centre, swimming pool, or lifesaving club for possible upcoming courses. Alternatively, email [email protected] for further assistance.

If you require any further support with renewing your FAW qualification or using your RLSS UK Account, we have 24/7 online support, including our FAQ Help Centre, easy-to-follow how-to guides, and on-demand webinars, that you can find by clicking here, or get in touch with us on 0300 323 0096 or [email protected] (Office hours: 9 am – 5 pm Monday – Friday).
