Combined Emergency Paediatric First Aid (EPFA) and Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)

The Combined Emergency Paediatric First Aid (EPFA) and Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course covers a range of essential CPR and first aid skills for adults and children. It equips employers and their staff with the knowledge and abilities to minimise risks and hazards in the workplace.

This one-day Combined Emergency Paediatric First Aid (EPFA) and Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course is for anyone over the age of 16 that has contact or works with both adults and children. This course combines two qualifications into one course.

RLSS UK’s Combined Emergency Paediatric First Aid and Emergency First Aid at Work training is CIMSPA endorsed, which means it has been quality-assured by CIMSPA. RLSS UK is an active member of the First Aid Awarding Organisation Forum (FAAOF) whose remit is to collaborate on best practice and maintain quality to ensure the integrity and currency of regulated qualifications. 

EPFA and EFAW are regulated by Ofqual, Qualifications Wales and CCEA in Northern Ireland.

About the Combined Emergency Paediatric First Aid (EPFA) and Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) Course

The RLSS UK Qualifications Level 3 Combined Emergency Paediatric First Aid and Emergency First Aid at Work course covers a range of CPR and emergency first aid skills, empowering the first aider to address various injuries and illnesses in adults and children.

This one day course combines the following individual courses:

The Combined EPFA and EFAW course offers both qualifications to be taken together within 7 hours and can be delivered over one day or split into smaller sessions which can be delivered over 4 weeks. 

The two qualifications are Ofqual, CCEA and Qualification Wales accredited and valid for three years from the date of assessment. It is suitable for anyone who has contact or works with adults, children and/or infants (babies).

The Combined EPFA and EFAW course comprises of practical work and theoretical classroom work, as well as practical and multiple-choice theory assessment of CPR and first aid.

Prerequisites to do a Combined Emergency Paediatric First Aid and Emergency First Aid at Work Course 

Candidates must be a minimum of 16-years-old at the time of taking the Combined Emergency Paediatric First Aid and Emergency First Aid at Work assessment, and no prior first aid knowledge is required. 


Who is the Combined Emergency Paediatric First Aid and Emergency First Aid at Work Course Recommended For? 

Everyone! Individuals and organisations are advised to take a Combined EPFA and EFAW course to provide and deliver CPR and emergency first aid skills to adults, children, and/or infants (babies) within their home or workplaces. 


Combined Emergency Paediatric First Aid (EPFA) and Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) Course Content 

A range of subjects are covered within the Combined Emergency Paediatric First Aid and Emergency First Aid at Work course, including: 

  • Understanding the role of the first aider and paediatric first aider. 
  • How to manage and provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally (adult, child and infant). 
  • How to manage and provide first aid to an infant, child, or adult suffering from shock. 
  • How to assess an incident and emergency situation and act safely and effectively. 
  • How to recognise and provide first aid for an infant, child, or adult with a foreign body airway obstruction (choking). 
  • How to provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding. 
  • How to handle a casualty with a minor injury. 
  • How to manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally.

Combined Emergency Paediatric First Aid and Emergency First Aid at Work Assessment Criteria 

The RLSS UK Combined Emergency Paediatric First Aid (EPFA) and Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course comprises of practical work and theoretical classroom work. There is a practical assessment on CPR and first aid, and all assessment criteria must be achieved to pass the course. 


Renewal Process for a Combined EPFA and EFAW Certificate 

To renew a Combined EPFA and EFAW certificate, candidates must re-qualify by being assessed against all learning outcomes and assessment criteria for the qualification. A renewal is achieved by reattending Combined EPFA and EFAW course.
