Lifesaving Sport is the only sport whose skills are first learned for humanitarian purposes. Selection is open to any athlete who is a full and current member of the RLSS UK, who will be a minimum of 16 years of age on or before December 31st 2025 and will be able to meet the selection criteria. As approved by the RLSS Director for the Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships, November 2024. UK Home Nations Eligibility Criteria (applicable for England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales) In addition to the ‘Eligibility to compete’ and ‘Nationality’ section in the RLSS Competition Handbook, an athlete shall be eligible to choose their country of representation if one of the following criteria is met: They were born in the country of representation or Their parent or grandparent was born in the country of representation (document evidence will be required); or They have been continuously resident in the country of representation for more than 12 months (if aged 17 or under) or 36 months or over (if aged 18 and over) on 31st December of the event year. Permanent residence does not include university attendance/registration . AND they must have participated in 10 hours of Lifesaving Activity in the UK with in the last 2 years. Lifesaving activity is defined as anything that qualifies for voluntary hours within the RLSS UK William Henry Award i.e. fundraised for RLSS UK, delivered class based water safety education, delivered water-based lifesaving training, delivered community first aid training, campaign activity Drowning Prevention Week or Don’t Drink & Drown, ran a networking event, officiating, lifeguarded at event etc. Hours must be logged on the RLSS UK membership platform (tahdah). Athletes declared results for consideration must have been achieved at an event from 1st May 2024. The event must have taken place in a 50m pool, be compliant with ILS rules and have published results. The final date for declarations will be the 1st April 2025. The guidance times should provide an indication of the required standards.
