DEFRA Module 3 - Recertification Information Candidates can recertify their RLSS UK Water Safety Training - DEFRA Module 3: Water & Flood Rescue Technician every three years by completing CPD hours or completing the course and assessment again. CPD Hours For those who are using Water Safety Training - DEFRA Aligned modules as part of the DEFRA flood response, candidates must follow the relevant CPD requirements to recertify. To renew with CPD hours, candidates must maintain an adequate level of continued professional development (CPD) throughout the validity of this module. Candidates must complete a minimum of 12 hours CPD per year, with a minimum of two sessions per year, with a maximum gap of nine months between training sessions. Of the twelve hours, at least six hours must be in the water. CPD must be evidenced and should cover the following content as a minimum: Donning, doffing and care of water rescue personal protective equipment (PPE) Water rescue incident management Self-rescue techniques Throw bags skills Shallow water crossing techniques Hydrology Ferry glide concept: negotiating obstacles: entry – egress; defensive swimming; aggressive swimming; tethered swims Basic boat handling Candidates with a DEFRA Module 3 award who have completed the required level of CPD (as detailed above), which has been delivered by suitably qualified instructors, are required to complete a minimum of 12 hours contact training over a minimum of two days. Candidates must complete the RLSS UK Water Safety Training DEFRA Aligned Module 3 assessment. Candidates must evidence a suitable level of CPD to their training provider. RLSS UK have created a comprehensive ongoing training and competency assessment plan to support candidates and training providers through the revalidation process. If candidates are unable to provide a suitable level of contact training hours or these are not required due to workplace requirements, candidates must reattend the course and complete the assessment as a new candidate.
