Prerequisites

*Please note - any course delivery or assessments that have been conducted during your Probationary Period will not be counted toward the above pre-requisites.

Application Process

To become a RLSS UK Mentor, there is a four-stage process.

Stage 1 – Online Application Form

The online application form asks you to confirm you meet the prerequisites, upload your evidence and detail your training and assessing experience. We also ask you to answer some questions about why you think you would make a great Mentor.

Stage 2 - Video Submissions and Compliance Verification

Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be asked to provide a 10-minute video on your delivery of the subject specialism of your choice (e.g. NPLQ). The video will be submitted to the RLSS UK team ([email protected]) for review to be assessed, scored, and feedback will be provided back to the applicant. The video can be submitted via any large file transfer service, such as WeTransfer, OneDrive or Google Drive. The video must be of high quality for both video and audio, including the applicant, candidates, and the delivery methods for review (the practical assessment record should also be submitted at this stage; if required).

All video submissions must have been recorded within three months prior to submission to ensure that the video is current.

The video should be submitted at least two weeks before the RLSS UK Mentor course to ensure it can be reviewed.

A status check with the Compliance team will also be made, confirming suitability for the role.

Upon a successful observation of the video submission and a successful compliance check, the application will then proceed to Stage 3 - Technical Knowledge Assessment.

Please note: further information regarding the video submission will be sent via email. Ongoing Training is acceptable as evidence, however, no online teaching will be accepted at this stage.

Stage 3 – Technical Knowledge Assessment

Applicants that are successful in stage 2 will be invited to take part in a technical knowledge assessment carried out over Teams/telephone (30 mins - 1 hour). Your current knowledge of the content of the syllabus and guidance for your qualifications will be put to the test. Whilst we do not expect you to know everything, you will require a good underpinning knowledge in order to make a great Mentor.

Stage 4 – Mentor Course

Applicants that are successful in stages 1, 2 and 3 will qualify for a place on the Mentor course. A one-day interactive workshop-based course that provides you with all of the information you will need to successfully mentor probationary trainer assessors. There is a mini-assessment at the end of the course, based on what you have learnt during the day, which you will need to pass in order to achieve your Mentor status.
