Advisory Group Member – Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity Advisory Group (SEDAG) Are you passionate about promoting best practice in relation to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion? SEDAG is a group of passionate and knowledgeable individuals who advise the right policy and approaches to safeguarding and EDI, and they are looking for individuals to join them to further their work. We are actively seeking candidates from Wales and Ireland, but we also welcome applications from all regions of the UK. The group maintains ongoing contact, formally meeting 4/5 times a year, and is an official sub-committee of the RLSS UK Trustee Board. SEDAG members are best placed to represent their region or branch on safeguarding matters and have both a strategic and tactical understanding of how to get ‘safeguarding ready’. SEDAG is supported by expert staff. Role Type: Voluntary Requirements: Able to commit to 4 – 5 meetings per year. Meetings are largely virtual with the commitment to attend at least one in-person meeting (Worcester) each year. Support: All reasonable expenses will be reimbursed in line with RLSS UKs expense policy. SEDAG is well supported by the Trustee Board and the staff team. Responsibilities To oversee the formulation, regular review and maintenance of RLSS UK Safeguarding, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policies and procedures to ensure compliance with current legislation and recognised best practice in the sector across the UK and Ireland. To actively promote and implement child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU) Standards for safeguarding and protecting children in sport, or work to other recognised best practice standards similar standards where CPSU standards do not apply. To play an active role in the delivery and promotion of the subsequent implementation and delivery plan for safeguarding, equality and diversity. To actively promote a culture and practice of fairness and inclusiveness consistent with UK and Ireland equality legislation. Act in an advisory capacity to the staff team, membership; Trustee Board, and voluntary infrastructure. To contribute to reports and recommendations to the RLSS UK Trustee Board on the effectiveness of Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity measures across Society activities and make an annual application for resources. To review a thematic overview of RLSS UKs safeguarding cases and establish strategies to improve policy and practice. To stimulate and motivate relevant activity, supporting the development and promotion of RLSS UK's safeguarding practices. To actively promote succession planning. Essential Skills and abilities A good communicator. Methodical and diplomatic in approach. Have the ability to work as part of a team. Ability to work with impartiality and integrity. Ability to turn policy into practice. Up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding and/or EDI practices. Preferably, demonstrable experience in a safeguarding or EDI role (voluntary or paid). Appointment conditions Must be in personal membership of RLSS UK (or be prepared to enter into RLSS UK Membership). All SEDAG members are to be in-date RLSS UK safeguarding training. All SEDAG members are to complete a confidentiality agreement form. Applications will be reviewed and progressed by current SEDAG members. Termination of appointment SEDAG members will operate without terms and can continue to support the group so long as they can still add relevant contributions and are happy to do so. Members will relinquish their role on SEDAG should they fail to attend three consecutive meetings.
