What is Water Smart Schools?

Expand

A free water safety education award programme for all school types, in all locations. Once you have completed all necessary steps, you will receive an award certificate at either bronze, silver or gold level.

What are the benefits to my school if I register for Water Smart Schools?

  • Class-based – minimum cost, minimum resources, low time commitment
  • Give all children - irrespective of gender, ethnicity or religion - the knowledge, skills and understanding to enjoy water safely
  • Specifically addresses health and wellbeing (PSHE in England) objectives and outcomes (equally applicable for English, Scottish, Welsh and NI
  • curricula)
  • Potential to link with other schools in other areas and internationally
  • Accreditation standards are achievable and optimal
  • Accreditation provides a visible commitment by a school to improve /enhance the quality of education
  • Repeatable and consistent framework of process and evaluation
  • Promotes Community awareness and engagement with water safety issues.

How long does the Water Smart Schools award last for?

Once you achieve your bronze, silver or gold certificate, the award lasts for a period of two years.

How long does the Water Smart Schools take to complete?

As long as you complete the programme within one academic year, you are free to progress at your own speed and in your own time, to better suit the needs of your learners.

How much does Water Smart Schools cost?

Water Smart Schools is completely free - all we ask is that you consider providing a donation or running some fundraising activity through the year. This will help the charity continue to provide our lifesaving work and educate more people to enjoy water safely.
